He was predeceased by: his parents, William and Roberta; his sister Karen Traw; and his stepgrandson Christopher Schriewer. He is survived by: his wife Vicki Stemmley; his sons, Douglas Stemmley (Kristine) of Washington and Jason Stemmley (Jennifer) of Washington; his stepdaughters, Christian Jonas (Scott Dodd) of Florissant and Jodie Gehm (Jim) of Wentzville; his grandchildren, Garrett, Emma, Kelsey, Carter and Benjamin Stemmley; his stepgrandchildren, Marissa Grannemann, Jessica Gehm (John Rust), Jenna Gehm, Crystal Wilson (Cody), James Gehm Jr., Amanda Masidonski and Doug Gehm; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Cody, Kayli Niehaus, Carson Rust, Victoria, Isabella, Anastasia Gehm, Ember and Riley Wilson; his siblings-in-law, Douglas King (Faywanda) of Harrisonville, Kathy Conner of Stover and Martha Toben (Rick) of Creve Coeur; and his aunt Doris Oakley (Anna Mae Mantels) of Affton. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
