She was predeceased by: her parents, Orville McNew and Inez McNew (McCoy); her husband Homer Thompson; her children, Shirley, Charlotte and Kay; and her siblings, Jim McNew, William McNew and Faye Carpenter.
She is survived by: her daughter Donna (Thomas Sims); her grandchildren, Michelle (James Jones), Stephen (Heather Witham), Seth Freeman and Michael (Angie Witham); and her siblings, Willard McNew (Pat) of Palm Springs, CA and Marvel Swift of Savannah. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
