He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Persell and Susan Katherine Trobaugh (Trobaugh); and his sister Helen Louise Persell Hochstetler of Trenton, Missouri.. He is survived by: his wife Viva Persell; his children, Paula (Paul Brain) of Webster City, Iowa, Doug of Trenton, Missouri and Anthony (Suzanne Tague) of Cameron, Missouri; his grandchildren, Justin, Jayden and Jenna; and his half-siblings, David Persell of Florida and Naomi Starkebaum of Oklahoma.
