He was predeceased by: his father Richard S. Schatz (May); his son Kevin Lee; his mother May Schatz; his siblings, Richard "Bud", Herbert, James, Louie, Francis, Lawrence, Leroy, Robert "Bob", Allen Schatz, Gertrude Newman and Virginia "Dink" Blankenship; his parents-in-law, Leo B. Thurmond and Ellen; and his siblings-in-law, William "Bill" Newman, DeWayne Blankenship, William "Bill" Juergens, James "Eddie" Thurmond, Byron Thurmond, Josephine "Fina", Katherine, Ruth, Jeanne, Virginia, Pat and Frances Roberts.
He is survived by: his wife Leola; his children, Curtis Schatz of Sullivan, Debra Parks (Ken) of Leslie and Sheila Boehmer (Scott) of Hannibal, MO; his siblings, Fredrick "Ed", Agnes Price (Harlan), Marie Spencer of Florida and Mary Schafer (Wayne) of Sullivan; his siblings-in-law, Jerry Thurmond (Sylvia), Steven Thurmond (Donna), Mark Thurmond and Sharen Thurmond; his grandchildren, Justin (Amanda), Natalie, Kelsie, Kayle (Mackenzie), Tyler, Sydni and Heath; his stepgrandchildren, Jeremy, Chelsey and Cody; his great grandchildren, Kloie and Brooke; and his stepgreat-grandson Logan. He is also survived by great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to remind anyone attending that standard COVID protocols will be followed; masks and social distancing required.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Alzheimer Research, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Sullivan Christian Church.
