He is survived by : his former life partner Jacqueline Duran; his children, Roy Higashi of Duke, MO and Kieko Ward of Sacramento, CA; his grandchildren, Xavier of Fairfield, CA, Ayami of Seattle, WA, Daniel and Alia of Sacramento, CA; his siblings, Ann, Janice, Akio of Sacramento, CA., Kazi of Sacramento, CA. and Louie of Sacramento, CA.; his wife Mary Ellen Higashi (Venable); his stepchildren, Skip of Fairfield, CA, Elyse of West Plains, MO and Tamarah of Fairfield, CA; his stepgrandchildren, Kenny of Charleston, SC, KellyKaye of Glenn, CA, Amanda of Texas, Jerelyn of Florida and Nick of Fairfield, CA; and his great grandchildren, Parker, Paige, TJ, Katie of Glenn, CA, Hannah, Ansley, Mason of Charleston, SC, Daycee, Rylee and Wyatt of Texas.

After doctors seen that his arms were so shaky that he couldn't drink from a glass or feed himself at times, he was diagnosed with Parkinson disease also, all was caused by Agent Orange during his time in Vietnam.
