Carol Joan Banta Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Carol Joan Banta of Steelville, Missouri, born in Saint Louis, Missouri, who passed away on October 16, 2023 at the age of 94. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Jefferson Dewitt Marsh and Doris Marsh; her parents-in-law, Royal and Margaret Banta; her former husband Denis Banta; her siblings, Janet Delcour and Joseph "Buddy" Marsh; and her grandson Craig Schmidt.

She is survived by: her children, David Banta of Steelville, Caroline Viehman (Rob) of Steelville, Marilyn Lakaner (John) of Steelville and Susan Schmidt (Ed) of Sullivan; her brother-in-law Chester Delcour (Fay) of Steelville; her grandchildren, Ryan Banta (Zoie), Joey Banta, Drew Kennedy, Daniel Lakaner, Rebecca Daniels (Chris), Kelly Lakaner (Austin Sumpter), Mitchell Schmidt, Kara Schmidt, Endi Rolufs (August), Justess Viehman and Shay Viehman; her great grandchildren, Jaxon Rolufs, Riley Rolufs, Josie Banta and Leo Sumpter; her close friend Sally Becker; and also, Dennis Banta (Dawn) of Jefferson City and Mindy Benedict (Eric) of Tonganoxie, Kansas. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Carol touched many lives, hosting people for Thanksgiving dinner who had no place to go, giving people rides to church, making and donating handmade quilts and baked goods for community fundraisers, and so much more.

Diana Likely wrote a sympathy message

“Carol was such a good friend to our family. She shared garden produce with us and shared her famous fruit cakes with my dad every Christmas . I was always happy that she got my dad's garden tractor after he died and know he'd have liked that too. Carol kept in touch with my mom and me until the last few years on Facebook and by letter. She was a lovely woman and will be missed. Diana Likely”
