He was predeceased by: his parents, Opal Brower-Byers and W. N. "Bill" Byers; and his sisters, Jane Erwin and Jean Hill. He is survived by: his wife Judith Jean Ruyle; his sons, Steve (Betsy) of Jefferson City and Greg of Kansas City; his grandchildren, Hayley Solano (Mitchell), Josh Byers, Lindsey Byers, Alexandra Gillette (Alan) and Marcus Milner (Chapin); his great grandchildren, Graham, Hayes Solano and Brooks Milner; his nephew Robert Hill (Vicky); and his niece Sharon Curtis (Paul).

Visitation was held on Thursday, November 21st 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the White Chapel (5234 State Hwy EE, Springfield, MO 65802). A funeral service was held on Thursday, November 21st 2024 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Thursday, November 21st 2024 at 1:00 PM at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens (5234 State Hwy EE, Springfield, MO 65802).
