He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Harrison James and Samantha Lucinda Jolly; his wife Anna M. James; his son Larry J. James; his granddaughter Shannon L. Fesperman; his son-in-law Stephen D. Fesperman; and his siblings, Leo, Leoland, Eugene, Gerald and Leona.

He is survived by: his daughters, Patricia E. Gamm (Jeffery Gamm) and Beverly J. Trantham; his sister Neoma Conkin; and his grandchildren, Jason Fesperman, Alicia Idell, Michael James, Melissa James, Teresa Riffe, Niki Smallwood, Stephanie James, Devin James, Matthew Trantham and Julie Fletcher. He is also survived by great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
