He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles "Charlie" Banta and Margaret Banta; and his sister Cathy Lindstrom. He is survived by: his wife Tani; his nieces and nephews, Greg Lindstrom (Beth), Meg Offerdahl (Brent), Amy Berra (Joe) and Allison Abrahams (Brian); his granddaughters, Lucille and Josephine; his stepdaughter Amber Hurst (Kelly); and his son Preston Lancaster (Lauren).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude Children's Hospital or Holy Trinity Catholic Church in his honor.
