He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Carlson and Gerda Carlson (Hjalmstrom); his siblings, Henry Carlson, Anna Allen, Florence Smith and Lorene Sunderman; and his daughter Deborah Ruth Carlson.

He is survived by: his wife Diana Kay Vance; his children, Rachel Carlson (Wendi Adams), Philip Carlson (Lab) and Matthew Carlson (Lia); and his grandchildren, Beatrix, Theodore, Izabellah, Edward, Magnolia and August. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
