He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman and Mamie; his wife Iris Louise Fockler; and his sister Eleanor Yvonne Viles. He is survived by: his children, Herman Smith (Mamie Wiley Smith), Jerry Smith (Teresa), Stephanie Amor (Brian) and Michelle Sprague (Rob); his grandchildren, Jacob Smith, Nicholas Smith, Brandon Carpenter, Meghan Kimbler, Taylor Carpenter, Zachery Amor, Morgan Amor, Dade Sprague and Landon Sprague; his great grandchildren, Callen, Oliver and Brenner; and his sister Sandra Furaus.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and can be left in care of the funeral home.
