He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles and Maxine Ivory Cochran (Mays); his wife Amanda Irene Cochran; and his brother Donald Cochran. He is survived by: his children, Sharon Duncan of Sedalia, Joseph Cochran, II (Kristen) of Sedalia and Rachel Stoner (Ryan Gilio) of Smithton; and his brother Robert Cochran of Indianapolis, IN.. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
