He was predeceased by: his father Richard Gurley; his stepmother Rayma Gurley; his mother Betty Jo Marrett; and his sister Elizabeth Kistler. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Ruth Bachtold; his children, Gina Revel (Jason) of Leawood, Erik Gurley (Lisa) of Bentonville and Jared Gurley of Sarcoxie; and his grandchildren, Ahnika Littlefield of Portland, Cailyn Revel of Leawood and Zoe Gurley of Sarcoxie.
