He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Heath Tilson and Anne Coe Tilson; his wife Kirtley; his son John; and his siblings, Bill and Annabelle.

He is survived by: his brother Hugh (Judy); his sons, Donald (Karen), Charles (Laura) and William "Wally" (Janine); his daughter-in-law Vicki (John); and his brother-in-law Michael Gunn (Jeanette). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
