He was predeceased by: his sibling Takakazu; and his parents, Takashige Sugitani and Yuki Sugitani. He is survived by: his children, Takatoshi "Nick" Sugitani, Mayumi Sugitani and Jun Sugitani (Sara Elias); his granddaughter Lucy Kindt; his siblings, Yasuko and Kazuko Sugitani; and also Cynthia Spencer (Roy Kroezen).
