He was predeceased by: his father William Rodell; his sister Sue Jordan; and his father-in-law Deacon Paul H. Bruening. He is survived by: his mother Luralene J. Tarter (Engeling) of Vandalia; his wife Sheila Ann (Bruening); his children, Alex Christopher (Athena Williams) of Monrovia, California, Benjamin James (Halli Larkin), Gabrielle Grace (Joseph Wood) and Samuel Paul Tarter; his siblings, Bill Tarter, Diane Straub (Randy), Stephen Tarter (Beth), David Tarter (Kim), Mark Tarter (Lori), Kathy Ehrat (Todd) and Jeff Tarter (Mel); his brother-in-law Phil Jordan; his mother-in-law Mary Ann Bruening; and his brothers-in-law, Tim Bruening (Angela) and Matt Bruening (Heather). He is also survived by 25 nieces and nephews, 26 great nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends.
