David L. Ramsey Obituary
Dave was born April 15, 1953, in Savannah, MO, to William and Nannetta (Barker) Ramsey.
On May 18, 1974, Dave married Christin (Friday) Ray and they shared 49 and a half years of (mostly) wedded bliss. They were a true "power couple" and always championed each others' endeavors.
Dave was a proud graduate of the class of 1971 from Central High School and every 10 years spent a good portion of his time tracking them all down for their class reunions. As much as he lamented over the process, reuniting with his friends was always a joy.
After high school, Dave did a quick stint at Missouri Western State College where he spent more time as a male cheerleader at football games than he did in class. He realized at this point, it was time to pivot his career interest and signed up for an electricians apprenticeship. He completed that process and was a member of IBEW Local 545.
He spent 34 years in the electric power industry, transitioning his career in 1987 to a job as Director of Member Service at the Rural Electric Coop in Savannah, MO. During that time, he returned to Missouri Western to complete his degree. Less cheering, more studying this time around.
The Missouri Rural Electric organization was the backbone of his career, serving in a variety of capacities, including General Manager of Tri County Electric and Energy Efficiency Program Manager at Associated Electric. He was inducted into the Missouri Institute of Cooperative's Hall of Fame in 2018. He loved what he did and never left a room with a light on.
He was incredibly active in Freemasonry and was a member in the Savannah Lodge #71, Moila Shrine Temple, Royal Order of Jesters and the Scottish Rite. Dave was appointed to the advancing line of The Grand Lodge of Missouri and served as the Most Worshipful Grand Master in 2012-13.
He was a multifaceted gentleman and reinvented himself many times. His younger years were spent calf roping and devoted to his horses. As Dave and the horses grew older, his hobbies seemed to shift. One day, he announced he was selling "anything that ate something other than gasoline" and thus, Dave the golfer was born.
After retirement they split their year between St Joseph, MO, and Sun City, AZ. Wintertime Dave was happiest sitting in the sunshine reading a book or enjoying golf or a cocktail with his snow bird friends. Summertime Dave adored spending time with his kids, his favorite son-in-law and grandkids. He loved a good power walk, a strong bourbon and to solve a problem. Above all things, he was a true family man and lived a life of service to others.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Dennis Ramsey and Donnie Ramsey.
Survivors include his wife, Friday; his children, Carra (Randy) Roth, and Timothy Ramsey; grandchildren, Jack, Vivian, Eleanor and August Roth; siblings Christie (Don) Elliott, Rhonda (Rick) Petrarca, Candace Hamm, and Cheri (Jeff) Shepard, Danny (Marylynn) Willis.
