He was predeceased by: his parents, Merrill Lanning and Fay Lanning. He is survived by: his wife Valerie Lanning; his children, Pamela (Jerry Castellano) of O'Fallon, Missouri and Scott (Alison) of Kirkwood, Missouri; his grandchildren, Alex (Alec Smith) of Denver, Andi (Alec Weber) of Nashville and Augi Lanning of Nashville, Tennessee; his great grandchildren, Liam, Landon Smith and Luka Weber; his stepgranddaughters, Lauren (Patrick), Alexa (Chris) and Michele; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Reese, Gianna and Bailey; his siblings, John Lanning (Judy) and Carolyn Watson (John); and his siblings-in-law, Beverly van Zanten and Terry Grapentine (Jean). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick's name to The Saint Charles Parks and Recreation Foundation.
