He was predeceased by: his wife Virginia Wilmes; his parents, Norbert Wilmes and Mary Wilmes; and his sister Martha Wilmes. He is survived by: his siblings, Mary Dean Glosier (late Robert), Daniel Wilmes (Joanne) and Jean Schaeffer (David); his children, Patricia Veit (Stephen), John Wilmes (Sandra), Douglas Wilmes (Susan) and Deacon Edward Wilmes (Barbara); his grandchildren, Dr. Stephanie Veit, Daniel Veit, Diana Norrenberns (Henry), Michael Wilmes, Rachel Wilmes, Marisa Wilmes, Joshua Wilmes (Jaimie), Allyson Kinnevan (J. J.), Emily Wilmes, Justin Wilmes, Mark Wilmes (Taylor), Clare Wilmes, Eric Wilmes, Anne Wilmes and Treasured; and his great grandchildren, Annabel, Wade Wilmes, Beau Kinnevan and Kathleen Wilmes.

In lieu of flowers, Masses may be offered or donations made in honor of Jim Wilmes to St. Charles Borromeo parish in St. Charles, Missouri.
