He was predeceased by: his former wife DeEtta Burney; his parents, Ralph Aaron Burney and Beulah A. Burney; and his sisters, Lola Perryman and Shirley Purnell.
He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Carr-Burney; his sons, David R. Burney, Jr. and Jim Carr (Reva); his grandchildren, Laura Lanham and Tracy Reeves; his siblings, Donny Burney (Penny) and Marceda Harris; and his nephew Willard Perryman. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
