He is survived by: his wife Mary Thornton; his sons, Robert Thornton III (Cindy), Michael Thornton (Lori), David Thornton (Katie) and Rich Cowan (Reńe); his sisters, Carole Sachs (Bill) and Laurel Perkins; his grandchildren, Emily van Uittenbroek (Torrin), Abigail, Olivia Thornton, Erin Keough, Haley Cross (Joshua) and Eric Cowan (Sydney); and his former wife Marie McCarley. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
