He was predeceased by: his parent William J.; and his sibling Jack Slais. He is survived by: his parent Mildred Slais, Sr.; his spouse Ruth E. Slais; his children, Daniel J. Slais (Bobbie), Pamela M. Freiberg (Rick) and Christine L. Eisenmayer (Steven); his grandchildren, Tim Slais (Angela), Leslie Ricketts (Daniel), Brent Maxwell (Kimberly), Erin Maxwell, Kristen Cooper (Mickey), Carole Newport (Scott), Kimberly McCoy and Chet Eisenmayer; his great grandchildren, Londyn, Grant, Molly, Lily, Grace and Isaac; and his sibling Richard Slais (Tish). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
