He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Hayes and Nora Hayes (Bullock); his wife Eunice Hayes (Robinson); his son Michael Walter Hayes; and his brothers, Stanley Hayes and Hursel Hayes (Mildred Hayes).

He is survived by: his daughters, Nora Hayes Griffith (Steve Griffith) of Blue Springs, MO, Stacy Hayes Kane (Francis L. "Rocky") of Bettendorf, IA and Leah Anne Hayes of Columbia, MO; his siblings, Jim Hayes of Rolla, MO and Nadine Asmus (Leo Asmus) of Dixon, MO; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Myers Carney and Lorene Hayes. He is also survived by his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other extended family members and dear friends.
