He was predeceased by: his parents, Joel Kirby and Emily Francis McCarter (Butler); his spouse Gale Jeanne Wilson of Richmond; his brothers, Walter McCarter and Larry McCarter; and his pets, Pete and Jack.
He is survived by: his children, Nathan McCarter (Wendy) of Billings, Mark McCarter (Joni) of Jefferson City and Emily Lynn Hicks of Lexington; his stepsons, Bryan Wall (Torey) of St. Louis, Shawn Wall (Melissa) of Charles City, VA and Michael "Shay" Branstuder (Sonja Tanner) of Kansas City; and his siblings, Steve McCarter (Tasha) of Escondido, CA and Martha Sue Bartelsmeyer of Mount Vernon. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond Education Foundation.
