He was predeceased by: his granddaughter Kaelyn Howe; and his brother Jack Knott. He is survived by: his former wife Glenda Kay Shelor of Richmond; his children, Donald Cole "Rusty" Simms of Enid, OK, Sammy Ray Simms (Karen) of Columbia, Angela Marie Lewis of Richmond and Callie Lynn Zackula (Jeremy) of Independence; his stepdaughters, Connie Phipps of Richmond, Julie Baker of Richmond and Cathy Wright of Richmond; his sisters, Dixie Corbin of Carrollton and Debbie Knott of Carrollton; and also Judi Ann Thomas of Richmond. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
