He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Roy and Sadie Malinda Garrett Nelson; his wife Irene Nelson; his children, Steven D. Nelson, Victoria L. Hughes and Pamela J. Nelson; and his siblings, Samuel G. Nelson, Archie Nelson, Harold Nelson, Leroy Nelson, Catherine Bickel and Madeline Eden.
He is survived by: his children, Pete Jr., Malinda Nelson of Pulaski, IA, Peter Nelson Jr. (Bernise Wallace) of New London, IA, Laura Nelson (Danny Thomas) of Keosauqua, IA and Karla Sheetz (Todd) of Keosauqua, IA; his grandchildren, Ella Mae McCallum, Amanda Nelson and Travis E. Hughes; his great grandchildren, Ryan McCallum, Duncan McCallum and Danielle Hughes; and his close friend Dottie Pulse. He is also survived by many extended family and friends.
