He was predeceased by: his parents, William "Bill" Elder and Pearl Little (Brown); his son Howard Ray Elder; and his grandchildren, Richard Preston Elder and Melissa Sheridan.
He is survived by: his wife Truda Reva Elder (Tennison); his sons, Randy Joe Elder (Norma) and Dwight James Elder (Marsha); and his sister Norma Phillips of Scappose, OR. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Parkinson Foundation.
