He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Joseph Malena and Rosemary Malena; his siblings, Michael Malena (Rita), Patricia Patterson (Greg), Jeanne Edmonds (Mike Carter), Mary Alvarado (Hector), Joseph P. Malena, Thomas Malena (Amanda), Kathleen Malena and Timothy Malena; his children, Dominic Malena (Rachel) and Francesca Jones (Luke); his grandchildren, Alexandra Malena, Braxton Malena and Jase Jones; and his sister-in-law Jackie Malena. He was also cherished by other grandchild on way, and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John's name to Abundant Life.
