He was predeceased by: his parents, George Stathem and Stella Ann Stathem (Bragg); and his daughter Ann Marie. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Stathem (McClanahan); and his children, Ross Stathem (Joyce) and Erin Armstrong (Kevin). He is also survived by one sister; two brothers, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
