He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Godfred and Emma Marqueritte Schmitter (Smith); and his grandson Gage Alan Schmitter. He is survived by: his wife Judith "Judy" Poe; his children, Timothy Swanson (Tammy) of Columbia, Todd Schmitter (Dena) of Memphis, Jason Schmitter (Angela) of Lancaster, Missouri, Krista Cooper (Rodney) of Greentop and Kala Schmitter of Columbia, Missouri; his siblings, Virgil Schmitter (Clarabelle) of Queen City, Missouri, William Schmitter (Jeannie) of Queen City, Missouri, Wilma Kirkman (Robert) of Newton and Naomi Schmitter (Jay Hehir) of Unionville, Missouri; his grandchildren, Dakota Schmitter (Tara Lovekamp), Zachary Schmitter, Haley McElhinney (Lucas), Jace, Wade Cooper, Timothy and Tiara Swanson; and his great grandchildren, Drake Macomber, Brantlee and Brinklee McElhinney. He is also survived by nieces and nephews; cousins and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Schuyler County Cancer Relief Fund or Schuyler County Nutrition Site.
