He was predeceased by: his parents, James Lucas Howard and Francis Ilene Cookson (Greer); his son Avery Wayne Cookson; and his siblings, Donald Cookson and Francis Laverne Wilfong.
He is survived by: his wife Stephanie Michelle (Patrick); his children, Jeremy Anthony Cookson of Puxico, Missouri, Angela Schrader (Stanley) of Puxico Missouri, Kimberly Zorich (Mike) of St. Louis, Missouri, Mandy Spain of Puxico, Missouri and April Mayberry (David) of Advance, Missouri; and his sisters, Betty Wilfong (Kenny) of Whitewater, Missouri, Joanne Belcher of Dexter, Missouri, Christine Pennington (Bill) of Dexter, Missouri and Julia Null (Ron) of Wappapello, Missouri. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
