He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernie Leroy and Elsie Louis Layton (Eggert); his friend Helen Irene Miller; his son Carl V. Layton of Monett; and his brother James Carnes.
He is survived by: his children, Robert Layton of Monett, Kip Layton of Oronogo, Missouri, Shawna Clevenger of McDowell and Jessica Layton of Monett, Missouri; and his siblings, Roy Layton of Marionville, Missouri, Margaret Meads of Joplin, Sharon Garrett of Butterfield and Elsie Layton of Neosho, Missouri. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
