He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Otis and Mary Christine Essary (Clark); and his siblings, Claire Provaznik, Mary Bilotti, Clyde Essary, Rita Gardner, Jimmy Essary and Phyllis Bush.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Jean Thomas; his children, Jeff Essary (Shellee) of Kennett and Cindy Cook (Drew) of Cordova, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Chandler Werr (Nick), Camryn Essary of Jonesboro, Abby Cook of Cordova and Drake Cook of Jonesboro, Arkansas; his great grandchild John Patrick Werr; and his siblings, Laura Essary Hinchey of Little Rock, Joe Essary (Allyne) of Canton, Georgia and Mike Essary of Poplar Bluff. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
