He was predeceased by: his parents, William Whelchel and Ethel Whelchel; his wife Juanita Reeves; his children, Peggy and Kenny; his sons-in-law, Joe Rommel and Larry Cordell; and his great great grandchild Brantley Cordell.
He is survived by: his daughters, Sherry Rommel, Althea Whelchel of Poplar Bluff, MO and LaDonna Cordell of Bowling Green, KY.; his brother Bill Whelchel (Linda); and his grandchildren, Bobby Moore (Kim), Rodney Moore (Kimberly), Terry Moore (Rhonda), Rusty Moore (Sara), Scott Rommel (Leigh Anne), Steve Rommel (Melanie), Misti Carrigan (John), Chad Cordell (Jamie) and Derek Cordell. He is also survived by 25 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren, and 1 great- great -great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
