He was predeceased by: his parent Bettye Jean Avery (Sutton); his stepfather Jack Avery; his stepbrother John Avery; and his sister Linda Sidman. He is survived by: his wife Carol Jo Shelley (Courtaway) of Pevely; his sons, Jacob David Shelley (Sarah) of Haymarket and Nathan Thomas Shelley of Mapaville; his brother Tim Shelley (Kathy) of Festus; his stepsister Debbie Gebert (Jim) of St. Louis; and his grandchildren, Hadleigh, Landon and Colton. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
