He was predeceased by: his parents, John Robert Melton and Alda Marie Louise Horenkamp (Ehlmann); his stepsiblings, Terry Horenkamp and Ronda Horenkamp; and his stepgrandson Justin Fulton.

He is survived by: his wife Normalee Ruth Melton of Perryville; his daughter Kathy Brotherton Cassidy of Perryville; his sisters, Margie Cox of Gulf Shores, Ala and Janice Rice of Spokane; his stepchildren, Kathy Dunker of Perryville, Cindy Hahs of Macks Creek, MO, William Brotherton (Sherry) of Sedgewickville and James Brotherton (Susan) of Patton, MO; and his stepsisters, Tina Hellmers (John), Cheri Kennedy, Georgia Ann Hoenig (Don) and Deborah Boyer (John). He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
