He was predeceased by: his parents, Hubert A. Schmitt and Dorothy B. Schmitt; and his brother John C. Schmitt. He is survived by: his siblings, Joel Schmitt (Cheryl), Thomas Schmitt (Susan), William Schmitt (Jane), Christine Lutz (Dennis), Judi Hergenroeder (Duane) and Jeffry Schmitt (Beth). He is also survived by nieces; nephews; and cousins.

As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to: House of Neighborly Service - Waterloo (Food Pantry).
