He was predeceased by: his parents, Karl Bates and Ethel Bates; his wife Bernice Northup; and his daughter Theresa. He is survived by: his friends, Albert, Harry, Alan and Nick; his sons, Travis Bates (Esther) and Troy Bates (Sharla); his grandchildren, Shelby Soll (Christian), Tayler B. Bates, Theresa Bates and Ely Bates; and his great grandchild Isaac Shepherd Soll.
