He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer L. Mooney and Alma C. Mooney (McDaniel); his sisters, Eloise Carter and Eileen Mooney; his nephew Wayne Carter; and his great-nephew Russell Carter Steele.

He is survived by: his sister Betty Plymell (Keith); his nieces, Marjorie Steele (Greg), Bonnie Hills (Neil), Gina Scott, Jacqueline McClure (Scott) and Shannon Plymell; his nephew Kent Plymell (Pam); and his niece-in-law Maria Carter.
