He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Gerkens and Anna; his son Ralph Gerkens; and his siblings, Hinni, Heinrich, Karsten, Metta, Walter and Hans.
He is survived by: his wife Erika Gerkens of Pacific; his children, Gerry Gerkens (Julie) of Affton and Brian Gerkens (Kimberly) of Eureka; his grandchildren, Nichole Gerkens, Austin Saylors (Danielle), Ashley Gerkens (Andrew), Allison Gerkens and Jessica Gerkens; and his great grandchildren, Daryn, Sophia, Kaia and Chase.
Memorial donations can be made to the Franklin County Humane Society.
