He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Dorothy Hellweg; his children, Joseph, James and Julia Stolle (Dennis); his grandchildren, Anthony, Sarah, Chloe Hellweg, Simon and Medhanit Stolle; his brother Robert Hellweg; and his sister-in-law Mary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Louis University Medical School or Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
