He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Joseph and Olga Maria Buscaglia Gaia; his siblings, Frank L. Gaia, Aldino J. Gaia and Diana L. Ruggeri; and his aunt Irma "Zia" Buscaglia.

He is survived by: his wife Vickie; his children, Maria Burr (Michael), Charles Gaia, Anthony Gaia (Madison Hagemann), Gina Gaia (Brian Cook), Robert Gaia (Kim) and Patricia Payne (Dan); his stepson Steven Tarquine (Amy); his grandchildren, Julia Burr, Matthew Burr, William Burr, Kelsey Gaia, Kourtney Gaia, Chelsea Sartore (Vince) and Haille Madonia (Tyler); and his stepgrandsons, Joseph Tarquine and Lucas Tarquine. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
