Born on June 25, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, Janett was the daughter of Marian L. (Besse) Dorman and Otto L. Dorman. She grew up in Northeast Kansas City alongside her siblings Edward Dorman, Philip Dorman, and Susan Dorman. As a child, she worked in her father’s pharmacy on St. John Avenue and was an active member of Melrose Methodist Church. She attended Scarritt Elementary School and graduated from Northeast High School in 1961, where she was remembered by friends as a gregarious and engaging presence.
Janett pursued higher education at Kansas City Junior College and the University of Kansas before earning a degree in Zoology from the University of California, Berkeley. She then spent several years in Albany, California, devoted to raising her three children—Christopher Vale, David Valenti, and Paula Vale—who were the greatest joys of her life.
In 1977, Janett embarked on her medical career by enrolling at the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, where she earned her medical degree. Over the years, she built a distinguished career in medicine as an internist specializing in senior care and also served as a hospitalist. Her dedication to patient care left a lasting impact on those she treated.
Beyond her professional achievements, Janett had a lifelong passion for horses and was an avid rider who owned five horses over the years. She also enjoyed competitive dancing and was an enthusiastic reader who cherished time spent with friends in her book club.
Dr. Vale was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edward Dorman, and her sister Susan Dorman. She is lovingly remembered by her brother Philip Dorman and his wife, her three children and their spouses, and her four grandchildren.
