He is survived by: his parents, Matthew Bates and Angela Forbis Bates; his sons, Cooper Duane Bates, Colt Thomas Bates and Cohen William Bates; his sister Jamey Smith (Joshua); his parents-in-law, Jeff and Karen Wheelan; his sisters-in-law, Lauren Wheelan and Lexi Wheelan; his nieces and nephews, Jackson Smith, Jacob Smith, Jasper Smith, Jaeleona Smith, Alex Smith and Macy Bates; his close friends, Logan Mueller and Dylan Krigbaum; and his cousins, Jake Bowers and Jayden Forbis. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 5th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. (302 S 5th St, Hannibal, MO 63401). A funeral service was held on Thursday, February 6th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
