It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Betty Lou Smashey of New London, Missouri, born in Sainte Genevieve, Missouri, who passed away on March 23, 2023, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Daniel J. Thomure and Mattie Wiggs Thomure; her husband Clarence W. Smashey; her daughter Pamela Lou Smashey; her granddaughters, Michelle Smashey and Rebecca Briscoe Yager; her great grandchild Madelyn Camille Miller; and her siblings, Daisy Thomure, Linda Garcia, Ambrose Thomure, Fielding Thomure, John Thomure, Darrell Thomure, Walter "Bib" Thomure and Raymond Thomure.
She is survived by: her children, Michael W. Smashey (Cindy) of New London, MO, Gloria Smashey of Hannibal, MO, Jeffrey Smashey (Penny) of Hannibal, MO and Teresa Briscoe (David) of New London, MO; her brothers, Edgar Thomure (Elizabeth) of West Virginia and Barry VanKent Thomure of Hannibal, MO; and her grandchildren, Renea Brown (Travis), Heather Dowell, Sarah D. Miller (Mike), Jodd Smashey (Katie) and Philip Briscoe (Amanda). She is also survived by 18 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
