He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Sr. and Mathilda Birkmann (Gerlemann); and his siblings, Milford Birkmann, Elmer Birkmann, Herbert Birkmann, Viola Brautigam and Hulda Birkmann.
He is survived by: his spouse Wretha Birkmann (Pruessner); and his daughters, Diane Kleinheider (Kevin) of New Haven, Rhonda Chwascinski (Duane) of New Haven and Linda Crowe (James) of Hermann. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
