He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Mary Patricia Vatterott and Gregory Vatterott; his adoptive father Charles Vatterott; his wife Joan Bayot Vatterott; his children, Mary Jane Harris (late Michael Harris III), Patsy Erker (late William Erker), Margaret Danna (late Frank Danna), Kathleen Valenta (late Richard Valenta), Charles Vatterott III, Mary Ann Holden (late Gerald Holden), Gregory Vatterott (Susan Vatterott), Catherine Vatterott (late Greg Langdon), Susan Bresnan, Chris Vatterott (Nancy Vatterott), James Coughlin, Winnie Greathouse (Mike Greathouse), Claire Hundelt (Bruce Hundelt), Martha Vatterott (late David Flavan III), Betty Vatterott, John Jr. (Emily), Katy, Mia (Michael Fitzgerald), Timothy (Miranda), Genevieve (Rich Haas) and Patrick (Anna); his grandchildren, Andrew (Molly), Madeline (Ramsey), Patrickson Jean (Anahi), Brendan, Brian, Will, Kevin, Emma, Charlie, Estela, Benicio, Connor, Lidia, Gus, Dylan and Adeline; his great grandchildren, Ramsey, Scarlet, Archie and McKenna Joan Vatterott; and also, Louise (John Prindable) and Victoria Sharp (John "Jack" Sharp).

Part of his legacy was donating his body to Saint Louis University Medical School.
