He was predeceased by: his wife Anna Elizabeth Talbot Prior; his siblings, Charles Prior, Bill Prior and Margaret Boyer; and his daughter Janette Prior.
He is survived by: his children, Lonnie Prior, Janet May Burts, Delores Jean Horn, James Edward Prior, Jr., Karen Sue Zumsteg, Annita Young, John Russell Prior, Rebecca Jane Arens, Lloyd Eugene Prior, Samuel James Prior, Connie Carmichael, David Stoneberger and Ronnie Stoneberger; his brother George Prior; and his niece Brochelle Sherman.
