He was predeceased by: his father John "Jake"; and his sister Mary Katherine. He is survived by: his wife Sammie Peters; his children, Sable (Patrick Hope) of Nevada and Dr. Colby Smith; and his siblings, Barbara Heidmann (Mike) of Washington, MO, Dan Smith (Joy) of Raymore, MO, Donna Sellars of Rich Hill, MO and Dwayne Smith (Suzanne) of Nevada.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ferry Funeral Home (301 S Washington St, Nevada, MO 64772). A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family in the care of Ferry Funeral Home to establish a scholarship in Jay's name for students interested in Criminal Justice careers.
