He was predeceased by: his parents, Clayton Cavanaugh and Helen Cavanaugh (Doolin); his sisters, Pat Stark and Lynn Cain; and his nephews, Christopher Cain, Ryan Cain and Barry Scott.
He is survived by: his wife Willie; his daughter Jody E. Lindsey (Frank) of Lamar, MO; his stepchildren, Frank Shutters (Misti) of Sheldon, MO, James Nickel (Paula) of Tallahassee, FL, Cynthia Grieve (Jeff) of New Castle, IN, Rick Nickel (Jen) and San; and his sister Lois Owings (Chuck). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, February 14th 2025 from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the Ferry Funeral Home (301 S Washington St, Nevada, MO 64772). A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. The military honors was held on Tuesday, February 18th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Fort Scott National Cemetery.
